Silver Taylor was left “dripping with blood” after gripping the sharp blade in Cedar Park, Texas.
She’s asked the retail giant to pay her compensation – and apologise – as she ended up with several deep cuts to her right hand, and a further laceration to her left hand.
Taylor told CBS Austin that she was in the Walmart shop on November 13, when two customers queuing in front of her suddenly told her that her hands were bleeding.
She checked, and “sure enough, I was just dripping blood”.
Her lawyer, Brad Wurster, told the broadcaster that she fainted, and struck her head because of the loss of blood.
Paramedics called to the scene at 11am took photos of the razor blade shoved inside the trolley handle – facing inwards towards the shopping cart, and thus hidden from view.
Silver was taken to St. David’s hospital, where her wounds were heavily bandaged.
She stressed “how thankful I am that I got hurt and not a child, [for example], my sons”.
As she takes blood thinners to treat a medical condition, Silver said she’s aware the cuts could take longer to heal, as the hand wounds are likely to re-open.
Silver said that she’s “ruined sheets” as a result of the lacerations.
Although it’s not known who inserted the blade in the trolley, she believes that Walmart has an “obligation to look at their carts” to see if they have “a hazard”.
Silver said that the presence of the blade made her “sad we have to live in a world like [this].”
Walmart has received a legal notice from Wurster on her behalf.
CBS said it had contacted Walmart for a response on the injury.
No one has been arrested in connection with the incident.
