“He was not just my brother, he was my best friend.

“He will be greatly missed, but we will meet again.

“His memory will live on in my heart forever.

“Robert, I love you. Rest in peace.”

Speaking to the New York Times a “close friend of the family” said Robert, who suffered from brain bleeds after a recent fall, had been taking blood thinners.

They added the president brother, who became ill last month, hadn’t been able to speak to family over the past few weeks.

On Friday Donald visited Robert at the Manhattan hospital in which he was being treated.

Police cordoned off roads around the building to allow the president to arrive.

Donald Trump was seen wearing a mask to protect against COVID-19 when he arrived at the hospital.

The President lavished his brother with praise during a White House press conference on Friday before leaving to meet him.

He said: “I have a wonderful brother.

“We’ve had a great relationship for a long time, from Day 1, a long time ago.”

Robert Trump is survived by his second wife Ann Marie Pallan who he married earlier this year.

Rudy Giuliani, Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, tweeted an emotional tribute to Robert.

He said: “Robert Trump has a big heart.

“As a former Mayor I know how much he did to help New Yorkers in need.

“We have lost a really good man.

“My love, prayers and condolences to the #Trump family.”
